Sunnyside Parents’ Club is a PTO, or Parent/Teacher Organization – our version of a PTA. Every parent is automatically a member of Parents’ Club. You don’t have to do anything to join, you don’t have to pay any dues, you’re already a member! We’re here to support and improve our school by volunteering and fund raising.
Why do we raise money? Each year, Parents’ Club provides every teacher with money to purchase supplies and go on study trips. In addition, we also help with capital improvements. In just the past few years, we have:
- upgraded the auditorium with a new sound system and docu-cam projection system
- purchased and installed new playground equipment
- put lighting in our arbor (where the lunch tables are)
- built out a new computer/science lab for 32 students
- bought a shed to house P.E. equipment
- we are currently working to provide shade structures for the very sunny playground near the upper grade classrooms
We also sponsor some really fun activities, including the following:
- Welcome Back to school refreshments
- Fall Carnival
- Scholastic Book Fairs
- Variety Show
- Spring Dance
- Bingo Night
- Camp Out
- Book-It
- Running Club
So, as you can see, Parents’ Club is involved in many aspects of Sunnyside. We work very closely with the principal, the teachers, and staff.
Our standard meeting time is the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. We really encourage you to come. It’s a great time to ask any questions you may have, or make suggestions which could better our school.
We also recommend that you volunteer in any way that you can. Whether it be on a large scale or small scale, it’s important to our kids. It motivates them, it excites them, and it teaches them to get involved, which is so important. And at Sunnyside, there are so many opportunities! From working in the classroom, to school wide events, or even helping out by doing things on your own time at home. There’s definitely something for everyone! So, welcome to our school, and we look forward to seeing you often, and getting to know you well.
